Rachel
|
As a lifelong resident of interior Alaska, Rachel knows the meaning of cold. To stay warm in the frigid Fairbanks winters, she likes to curl up with some good math problems. This habit (started in her youth) eventually led to a double-major in Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In other words, Rachel is "hella smart"! In addition to solving complex math problems, Rachel spent her youth dog mushing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, camping and just simply enjoying being outside in the wilderness surrounding her home. These days, McCarthy is Rachel's summer "home away from home", where she especially enjoys the endless wild terrain and interesting local characters. The outdoors, good coffee and good beer help keep her sane year round in this vast land called Alaska. Rachel graduates in Spring 2009 and in the fall she hopes to venture Outside ("outside Alaska") like her big brother Todd and maybe even learn the ways of cityfolk... |
